We deliver our own firewood on our own vehicle, across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and the surrounding area. This page explains where we deliver, what it costs, when it arrives and what we need from you.
Where we deliver
Free delivery
Delivery is free, with no minimum beyond our standard one bag minimum order, to the following postcode areas:
AL4 8, AL5, AL6, LU1, LU2, LU3, LU4, SG1, SG3, SG4, SG5, SG6
This covers Harpenden, Welwyn, Luton, Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth and the villages around them.
£10 delivery
A flat £10 delivery charge applies to the following postcode areas, whatever the size of your order:
AL1, AL3, AL4 0, AL8, AL4 9, AL7, AL10, HP1, HP2, LU5, LU6, MK45 1, MK45 4, MK45 5, SG2, SG7, SG14, SG15, SG16, SG17
This covers St Albans, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead, Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Baldock, Hertford and Ampthill.
Outside these areas
If your postcode is not listed above, our checkout will tell you that we cannot deliver to you. We would still rather hear from you than lose the order, so give us a ring on 07971 554 958. If you are just outside the boundary, or you are ordering enough to make the journey worthwhile, we will often be able to help.
Enter your postcode at checkout and the correct delivery charge will be applied automatically.
When your firewood arrives
- We deliver Monday to Friday.
- After you order, we will contact you by telephone, text or email to agree a delivery day.
- Most orders are delivered within 2 to 3 working days.
- Deliveries are busier from October to February and lead times are longer during a cold snap. If you are running low, order early.
- Delivery dates are estimates. Weather, ground conditions and demand all affect them, and we will keep you informed if a date needs to move.
You do not need to be at home
Most of our customers are out when we deliver. That is fine, as long as you have told us where to leave the wood and we can get to it safely.
Add your instructions in the order notes box at checkout, or tell us when we call to arrange the day. The more specific the better. “Round the side, on the concrete by the back gate” is more use to us than “round the back”.
Access
We deliver on a tipping vehicle. Before you order, please have a think about whether it can reach the spot you have in mind. It helps to tell us in advance about:
- Narrow lanes, tight turns or low branches on the approach
- Low bridges, weight limits or width restrictions
- Gated or shared access, and anything we will need a code or key for
- Steep, soft, gravelled or newly laid driveways
- Parking restrictions or a busy road where we cannot stop for long
- Manhole covers, soakaways, septic tanks or anything else under the surface we should keep off
If we arrive and cannot deliver safely, we will call you and arrange another day. Where a wasted journey was caused by access being different from what we were told, we may need to charge for the second attempt. This very rarely happens, and a two minute conversation beforehand prevents it.
A loaded vehicle is heavy. We will take reasonable care on your property, but if you have any doubt at all about whether your driveway will take the weight, tell us and we will tip somewhere sensible instead. Please see section 10 of our Terms and Conditions.
Stacking service
If you would rather not move the wood yourself, we will stack it for you at £30 per bulk bag. It needs arranging in advance, so mention it when you order or when we call about your delivery day, and we will make sure the right amount of time is allowed.
Stacking is done at a reasonable distance from where the vehicle can park. If your log store is a long way from the road, or up steps, please tell us so we can quote properly.
What arrives
Logs come in heavy duty bulk bags, cut to approximately 8 to 10 inches. Bulk bags are a measure of volume rather than weight, and the weight of a bag varies with the species mix and how dry the wood is.
The bulk bag is left with you. We do not empty it out and take it away, so you can keep the logs in the bag under cover or stack them wherever suits you.
